Bus services extended

Wednesday 18 April 2007

Three bus services linking local communities to Lewes have been given the green light to run for at least another two years.

East Sussex County Council has extended the 121 Newick service, the 122 Barcombe service and the Peacehaven Taxi Rider until July 2009.

The contract for the Taxi Rider, which offers a door-to-door service, was awarded to Community Transport for the Lewes Area (CTLA) at a yearly cost saving of about £6,000 to the council tax payer.

It will continue to offer access to local amenities and bus services from the Meridian Centre and will serve Peacehaven, Telscombe Cliffs and East Saltdean, running on weekdays between 8am and 5pm.

Passengers wishing to use the service, which has easy-access vehicles, should register with CTLA on 01273 517332. The fare is £1.50 or free for Countycard holders.

The Council extended the contracts for the 121 and 122 routes with operator Countryliner after an initial trial period revealed 35,000 passengers would use the service. This means at least half the running costs would be met by fares, which meets strict Council guidelines for bus services it will support.
