Businesses receive the Buy With Confidence approval once East Sussex County Council’s Trading Standards Service has undertaken an audit of their business to ensure compliance with trading standards civil and criminal legislation. In addition, background checks to ensure that businesses do not have a history of consumer complaints are carried out prior to approval.
Trading Standards incorporated an information event into the latest Buy With Confidence ceremony which was held recently in Hastings for businesses that were considering joining the scheme. Representatives from local business organisations were also invited to hear first hand the benefits to business of becoming approved.
Alan Sidders, of Sussex Property Services, spoke to the audience about how the process had benefited his business, ensuring he complied with relevant legislation, improving consumer confidence and generating enquiries based on being a BWC member.
Businesses that had achieved approval were awarded their certificates from Councillor John Barnes, Chairman of the County Council.
For the first time, a mobility adaptations company and hearing aid provider have been added to the diverse range of businesses on the list, ensuring customers in East Sussex have a full range of services that they can use in confidence.
Councillor Bob Tidy, Lead Cabinet Member for Community Safety said: "It is extremely pleasing to see this scheme continue to grow with more businesses signing up. I am particularly happy to see more firms from the Hastings and Rother area joining the scheme with six businesses celebrating their accreditation at our latest Buy With Confidence event.”
The scheme which began in May 2004 now has 243 approved businesses and is part of a regional group of Trading Standards Authorities across the South East who have all agreed to adopt Buy With Confidence as their good trader scheme.
In January this year, East Sussex County Council launched a new look for the Buy With Confidence web pages, which consumers can now search either by trade or by entering their full postcode.
