Dreaming of a green Christmas

Monday 18 December 2006

People in East Sussex have been sending in their suggestions on how to spend a green Christmas.

The County Council ran a competition asking residents for their top tips on how to be environmentally friendly at Christmas. Suggestions included:

  • use old cards to make paper chains to hang
  • make your own crackers out of the cardboard tube from old loo rolls, and
  • make your own Christmas gift sacks from plain pillow cases that you can decorate and use year after year.

The competition was organised to encourage people to think about recycling. The first fifty entrants won Christmas decorations made from recycled materials.

Councillor Matthew Lock, Lead Member for Transport and Environment said, “There are a lot of creative ideas here. It is encouraging that people in East Sussex are thinking about the environment and looking for ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.”

We have received 70 pledges over the Christmas period. There is now an ongoing pledge page: make a pledge to reduce, reuse, recycle.

If you want to make a promise to do something to reduce your rubbish please make a pledge and send it to:
