Bookstart Bear is coming to Eastbourne

Tuesday 24 October 2006

A campaign to get more parents and guardians to share books with their babies and young children arrives in Eastbourne early next month.

East Sussex County Council’s Library Service has been promoting the national ‘Bookstart’ campaign with a series of special ‘rhymetime’ events at libraries across the county. The campaign aims to encourage the joy of reading and organisers want every child in the UK to develop a lifelong love of books.

The campaign continues with a special appearance by Bookstart Bear at the Arndale Centre in Eastbourne on Thursday 2 November between 9.30am and 2.00pm. Bookstart and Library staff will be giving out leaflets, stickers and balloons and giving families information about where they can access their free Bookstart Packs. Parents and guardians can also find out where they can attend Bookstart rhymetimes.

TAP, the charity organisation from Eastbourne that works in partnership with the County’s Library Service in delivering this initiative will also be at the event to promote its services.

The Bookstart display will be situated between Bay Trading and the entrance to Sainsbury’s. For more information please contact Sue Stevens, Bookstart project manager on Eastbourne 01323 416324.
