Parking improvements in Lewes

Wednesday 18 October 2006

Changes are being made to Lewes’ parking scheme following a consultation last year and further discussions this year with residents and local businesses to find out how it could be improved

Work has begun this month on altering and adding new road markings, signs and ticket machines. This has started in Malling and will work Westward across the town. This work will be completed by the end of November, weather permitting.

These changes will result in:

  • more parking spaces for residents, helping people park closer to their homes, particularly overnight.
  • more parking spaces in the town centre, helping shoppers park closer to the shops, and,
  • the benefits of the scheme being extended to those living at its edge who have requested it.

Where work will cause disruption, residents will be told seven days in advance and every attempt will be made to minimise the inconvenience.

Further information and maps of the changes to parking are available for inspection at:

Notes to editors

Parking controls were introduced in September 2004. Since then consultations have determined how the scheme could be improved and the detail of the changes which are now going ahead.
