Tuesday 29 August 2006

Provisional results of this year’s Key Stage 2 tests show primary schools in East Sussex have maintained their standards in English and Science in line with national trends.

The results show a slight improvement in English with 77.8% of pupils achieving Level 4 and above, compared to 77.6% last year. There was a slight fall in the number of children achieving Level 4 in mathematics with 73.7% compared to 74.9% last year. The science results improved, with 86.8% achieving Level 4 compared to 86.2% in 2005.

Councillor Rupert Simmons, Lead Member for Learning and School Effectiveness at the County Council said: ‘Raising educational standards is one of the County Council’s priorities and we are pleased that standards in English and Science are being maintained particularly after the significant improvements we have seen over recent years. We will of course, continue to make every effort to support our schools in making even more progress in the future.’
