Working in small groups alongside professional artists and technicians, the young people were able to create four multi-media film installations inspired by the Redoubt Fortress. The short films – complete with soundtracks and special effects – were also influenced by personal interests, including football and Free Running.
The project was run by East Sussex County Council’s Youth Development Service in partnership with Willingdon Community School. Youth Development Service certificates for their hard work and participation were awarded at the opening event on last Thursday (20 July).
The films can be viewed on the weekends of the 5th, 6th and the 12th, 13th of August as part of the Re: Play Summer Days workshops and exhibition at the Redoubt fortress.
The film project one of several activities for young people included in an initiative by East Sussex County Council’s Youth Development Service to develop youth arts at the Archery Youth Centre. From August 14th to 18th the Freestyle Summer Sounds Music Experience will be offering street-drumming, DJ-ing, street dance, vocal workshops and ‘Make Your Own Music Tracks’. Young people from 10 to 14yrs will have a chance to try out new skills in a friendly and encouraging environment. A few places are still available – call 01323 646591 for details.
Notes to editors
Free Running involves attempting to pass all obstacles on a route in a smooth and fluid way. Free runners interact with their environment using movements such as vaulting, jumping, somersaults and other acrobatic movements.
