Press release: Nappy Birthday!

Thursday 13 April 2006

Babies born in East Sussex in the last week of April could be getting an extra birthday present – free nappies!

East Sussex County Council is offering free starter packs of washable nappies to all babies born during Real Nappy Week, 24 – 30 April 2006.

This year sees the tenth anniversary of the event which encourages families to save hundreds of pounds and cut their weekly rubbish in half by using washable nappies.

Every baby requires around 20 washable nappies from birth to potty, compared to 3,800 disposable nappies in the same period, so by switching to washables parents can substantially reduce the amount of waste produced by their household as well as save money.

During the week, Brighton & Hove and East Sussex Real Nappy Network will be on the road with their nappy roadshow. Residents can come along and see the benefits of washable nappies, ask for advice on using them and buy reduced price sample packs.

Highlights include:

  • Monday 24th April – The Rethink Rubbish exhibition bus will be in Priory Meadow, Hastings.
  • Tuesday 25th April – Promotion in Churchill Square Shopping Centre, Brighton
  • Wednesday 26th April – Promotion at Rye Farmers' Market, Rye
