County Leader extends SEEDA role

Friday 24 March 2006

Peter Jones, Leader of East Sussex County Council, has accepted an extension to his appointment as a board member of the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA).

Councillor Jones will now keep his position at the influential regional organisation until December 2009.

Councillor Jones was first appointed as a board member of SEEDA in December 2003 and since then has played a major part in pushing forward their regional economic strategy and sustainable development agenda. He was appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Agency in December last year.

Peter Jones said: "I am delighted to be able to accept this extension to my appointment with SEEDA. It is vital that East Sussex is represented on this important regional body so that we can influence decisions on key issues such as economic regeneration.

"The County Council is playing its part locally to help boost the economy of East Sussex but it is also extremely important that our voice is heard at both regional and national level.

"I very much appreciate the support which SEEDA has given us in East Sussex and hope that I can use the experience of that close partnership working to assist its work elsewhere in the region.”
