Rock Challenge is a competition for young people promoting the message that you can have fun and be your best without drugs and alcohol. Eastbourne’s Congress Theatre will be hosting the East Sussex Rock Challenge event on Wednesday 29 March at 7.00pm.
Beacon Community College, Crowborough, Bexhill High School and Bexhill College, Cavendish School, Eastbourne, Filsham Valley, St Leonards, The Lindfield School, Eastbourne and Ratton School, Eastbourne are taking part in the event. Teams of 11–18 year olds will be performing and competing against each other on stage at the Congress. Hastings youth act ‘Respond’ will also be performing at the event.
East Sussex County Council along with Sussex Police, Connexions and East Sussex Drug and Alcohol Action Team are helping to sponsor and promote the event. The partners involved aim to provide young people with a positive activity and alternative to anti-social behaviour.
Councillor Bob Tidy, Lead Member for Community Services at the County Council, said: "The Rock Challenge competition not only helps to promote a better awareness of issues around drugs and alcohol it also supports our work to tackle anti-social behaviour. Improving community safety is one of our highest priorities and we are delighted to support this event.”
The Rock Challenge event coincides with the launch of the County Council’s Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy for East Sussex. The Strategy seeks to reduce alcohol related harm to individuals, families and communities. It promotes the good practice already taking place in the county and highlights priorities for the next two years.
