Home visits for the blind and partially sighted set to continue

Monday 27 February 2006

The service will continue to help people with correspondence and small household tasks with the aim to keep people independent in their own homes.

East Sussex Vision Care (a group of local societies for the blind) will run the service themselves using continued financial support of £70,000 from East Sussex County Council. The service was previously contracted out by East Sussex Vision Care to Homecall.

"After further discussions with East Sussex Vision Care, they have identified economies from which they hope to extend the service to a full twelve months," says Councillor Bill Bentley, lead member for adult social care.

"Council officers will continue to work with East Sussex Vision Care to identify funding for a service to be maintained in the longer term."
