East Sussex County Council’s Buy With Confidence scheme welcomed a further 23 new members at a recent ceremony in Eastbourne. The scheme now has 156 members from right across East Sussex.
The latest group of traders were welcomed to the scheme by the Chairman of East Sussex County Council, John Barnes and by the Lead Member for Community Services, Bob Tidy.
Councillor Tidy, said: "This scheme is growing rapidly both in numbers and reputation. Consumers get a great deal as they can pick from a list of traders that aim to provide a reliable and customer-friendly service. And it’s also a boost for the traders themselves as they can benefit from the positive publicity and potential extra business of being an ‘approved trader’.
Council Chairman John Barnes added: "I was delighted to welcome businesses from all areas of the county, from Hooe to Peacehaven and from Ringmer to Battle. Traders that join the scheme are helping to give consumers peace of mind, particularly the elderly who need to know who they can trust. I would like to congratulate our Trading Standards Service for co-ordinating and promoting the scheme. It’s a positive example of the Council’s work to both support business and protect consumers.”
The Buy With Confidence scheme is co-ordinated by the Council’s Trading Standards Service. It puts consumers in touch with approved traders who have agreed to provide high standards of customer service, including dealing promptly with any complaints. The traders have also undergone rigorous checks and an audit before they join. Any business can apply to become members of the scheme. The list of approved traders runs from builders to wine merchants and from chauffeurs to upholsterers.
If businesses want to find out more about joining the scheme they should contact the County Council’s Buy With Confidence team on 01323 418215 and select option 2. Consumers who want to find an approved trader should call the same number and select option 1.
The list and information on joining the scheme is also available online by visiting the County Council’s website at eastsussex.gov.uk/buywithconfidence.
The recent ceremony to welcome the latest group of traders to the scheme was part of a special open day organised by the Council’s Trading Standards Service. The open day was designed to give traders interested in joining the scheme more information about the initiative and a chance to speak to people directly involved.
