The awards recognised the hard work of six nurseries and pre-schools in East Sussex:
- Chalk Hill Pre-School, Wren House Nursery and The Lighthouse Nursery in Eastbourne
- Horam Community Pre-School, Horam
- Annecy Nursery Seaford
- Little Squirrels Nursery, Heathfield.
Two childminders, Michelle Goldfinch and Martin Robards, both from Seaford, also received Quality Assurance awards. They were presented by the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Graham Marsden, at the Cavendish Hotel during the ceremony organised by East Sussex County Council’s Early Years Development and Childcare team.
Quality Assurance awards recognise continuous improvement in care by providers who go beyond minimum OfSTED standards and requirements, and give parents a guide to the standards of service they can expect. Providers must meet criteria set by a range of professional childcare organisations including the Pre-school Learning Alliance, National Childminding Association or London Play. East Sussex County Council provides support to help individual nurseries, pre-schools, childminders and playworkers develop their childcare service and meet the awards’ standards. A further 40 childminders, 34 nurseries and pre-schools, and 20 holiday playschemes and out of school clubs are currently working towards their accreditation.
Councillor Rupert Simmons, Lead Member for Learning and School Effectiveness, said: "Raising standards in early years and childcare is really important to give our children a firm foundation for life and education. These awards not only recognise the hard work and dedication of people providing services for 0 to 8 year olds, but help parents identify the best services available.”
"I am very pleased to have been able to recognise the hard work and commitment of so many people working with young children, either as childminders, or in nurseries,” added Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Graham Marsden. "Quality Assurance raises standards above the lowest acceptable level. Our youngest residents in East Sussex deserve the best and Early Years Development and Childcare are working to achieve that."
