Traffic calming – what do you want to see?

Wednesday 30 November 2005

Residents in Filsham Road, St Leonards are being asked for their views about plans to reduce speeds along the road and improve conditions for pedestrians.

The County Council is eager to get local people’s views on the proposed scheme. Letters giving more information will be sent to people in the immediate area, and there will be an exhibition at Hastings College of Arts and Technology on Friday 9 December 12:30 – 7pm and Saturday 10 December 9am – 1pm, where council officers will be on hand to discuss the proposals and answer any questions.

The scheme includes a new mini-roundabout at the junction with The Green, and a series of traffic and pedestrian islands and kerb realignments along the route to narrow the road and remove its straight and open appearance. Access improvements will also be made at the bus stops and dropped kerbs and tactile paving installed to help people with disabilities to cross the side roads.

After the exhibition, plans can be viewed through our consultations web pages or at Hastings Information Centre, Queens Road, or Hastings Borough Council offices.

Subject to the consultation process and the necessary funds being available, it is intended to introduce this scheme in the next financial year.

Notes to editors

The exhibition will take place in the International department of Hastings College of Arts and Technology, in St Saviours Road, Hastings.

Hastings Borough Council offices are at Century House, Menzies Road, St Leonards.
