This takes the number of nurseries in East Sussex that use washable nappies to eleven, with another four in the pipeline this year.
By using washable nappies, the new nursery will be promoting the message that there is a cost-effective, green alternative to disposable nappies. With local landfill space running out, reducing waste is a priority for East Sussex County Council. The Real Nappy Network is also keen to encourage parents to switch to washable nappies – not only are they cheaper, they can also reduce their weekly rubbish by half.
Starter packs of washable nappies are being offered at a reduced price, to encourage parents to give them a go. If you would like to find out more, visit the Real Nappy Network’s website Nappies.org or phone 01273 482242.
Notes to editors
The Brighton nursery is called Growing up Green and the Real Nappy Network provided start-up costs for using washable nappies, using funds from WRAP (the Waste and Resources Action Programme). The Real Nappy Network covers East Sussex and Brighton & Hove.
