From Monday 26 to Friday 30 September, a range of activities including classroom workshops, a poetry competition, special assemblies and daily circle time will allow children to explore what makes a good friend, how to be a good friend and why friends are important. There will also be a chance to look at conflict with friends and ways to deal with it, including a special assembly to talk about bullying with John Khan, East Sussex County Council’s Strategic Lead Officer for Anti-Bullying.
"Bullying can affect the whole school community and was an issue raised by some parents during our regular consultation,” said Head Teacher Malcolm McNeill. "Friendship week is part of the school’s ongoing anti-bullying programme, and an opportunity to reinforce the positive aspects of friendships and provide pupils with some tools to help form good relationships with classmates.”
Councillor Rupert Simmons, Lead Member for Learning and School Effectiveness at the cunty cuncil, said: "It is important that children feel safe in school and that schools actively tackle bullying. We’re delighted to be able to support Hoddern Primary in such a positive initiative.”
