Remembering a People’s War

Wednesday 31 August 2005

Experience what it was like to live through WW2 with East Sussex libraries’ touring exhibition of local and national archives.

The exhibition will bring photographs, posters and artefacts from the war period into local East Sussex libraries. It will visit each library for two weeks, with specialist books also available to borrow.

The libraries involved are:

  • Bexhill Library – Monday 5 September to Saturday 17 September
  • Eastbourne Library – Monday 26 September to Saturday 8 October
  • Peacehaven Library – Monday 17 October to Saturday 29 October
  • Crowborough Library – Monday 7 November to Saturday 19 November

This is part of the County Council’s involvement in the BBC People’s War project, sharing experiences of WW2 from across the country. The library service has received a £9,500 award from the Home Front Recall scheme with funding from the Joint Lottery Grants programme to develop the project in East Sussex.

The touring exhibition includes materials from East Sussex libraries, East Sussex Record Office, East Sussex Museums Service, the WRVS and Newhaven Fort.
