Waste Plan comments published

Friday 26 August 2005

Public comments have been published on Brighton & Hove City Council and East Sussex County Council’s plans for dealing with waste in the county.

Local people commented on the councils’ response to a set of recommendations, which were made on the Waste Local Plan by an independent planning inspector, earlier this year.

A summary of all the comments, including names and addresses of objectors, can be found on the website for the Waste Local Plan or at 15 different locations listed below.

Around 7,000 of the 8,429 people who commented sent in standard objections. These standard letters included objections to the councils’ changes and rejections of the inspector’s recommendations.

The comments received are now being examined and a response will be prepared as part of the councils’ consideration of the next stage for the Waste Local Plan.

Notes to editors

In December 2004 and in January 2005 this year, the two councils considered all the recommendations made by an independent planning inspector who conducted a public inquiry into objections to the Waste Local Plan in the summer of 2003. The councils accepted the majority of the inspector’s recommendations though some were rejected. The reasons for rejecting the recommendations and for making modifications to the plan were published for comment during February and March this year.
