One in four people will visit their GP during their lifetime with an anxiety-related problem, but mental health issues often have a very negative image and are much misunderstood.
"Exhibitions like this, with experienced staff from all sectors and people who have had mental health problems, can do a great deal to combat the stereotypes which may stop people coming forward for help,” said Councillor Bill Bentley, lead member for adult social care.
Run by a multi-disciplinary team made up of service users, East Sussex County Council social care staff and health workers, and independent and voluntary sector organisations, the road show will provide information and fun activities.
Up to eight people will be available on the exhibition’s trailer every day to answer questions from the public, demonstrate holistic therapy, explain preventative techniques and provide information about available services.
Children can take part in a colouring competition about identifying emotions using different clown faces at town or community centres between 8 and 22 August.
The aim of the road show is to increase public understanding of mental health problems through education, and let people know where advice can be found in their local community.
It was organised by Dave Harris, manager of the mental health centre at 73a London Road, Bexhill. Organisations taking part include the Mental Health Aftercare Association and the Hastings Sheltered Workshop.
