East Sussex is an EPIC presence in Europe

Wednesday 29 June 2005

East Sussex County Council’s Assistant Director of Libraries and Community Learning is leading the way in a national scheme giving people information about Europe.

Irene Campbell has taken over as chairman of EPIC (European Public Information Centre). A network of centres based in public libraries throughout the UK, EPIC provides a one stop shop for any queries or concerns about European issues.

The scheme has been running since 1991 with the support of the European Commission Representation in the UK. Closely involved since its development, Irene Campbell said: ‘I am excited about continuing the work of former chairman, Alan Watkin who has established a centre in almost every local authority.

‘EPIC is especially important at the moment due to the high profile that EU membership has. We can provide information to people on their doorstep, without the spin. As chairman, I will be raising the profile of what we offer both locally and in Brussels’.

Hastings Reference Library is East Sussex’s EPIC centre. It offers advice on everything from working or retiring in an EU country, to opportunities for studying in Europe, European grants and funding and much more. For further information call 01424 716481 or visit our research and reference pages for more about the resources available in libraries.
