Property team wins national award commendation

Thursday 23 June 2005

East Sussex County Council’s property management team has been commended in the industry’s ‘Oscars’.

The division, part of the council’s Corporate Resources Directorate, earned special praise from the judges when the RICS Property Management Awards were announced in London on Tuesday (21 June).

The team had organised last year’s successful rationalisation of the council’s offices in Lewes which generated £3.5m of income, £2.4m of which was available for investment in core services, and annual savings of £300,000.

Councillor Tony Reid, East Sussex County Council lead member for corporate resources, headed the team which collected the commendation at the Royal Opera House.

He said: "It was a tremendous achievement to be shortlisted for the awards which are the leading accolades for our profession. To then receive a commendation – a prize awarded only in exceptional circumstances – was very special.”

The RICS Property Management Awards recognise and reward excellence in the strategic management of real estate. East Sussex County Council earned its commendation in the public sector section of the ‘Property Management Strategy and Delivery’ category.
