Hellingly's 'Think! Slow Down – Belt Up!' child safety week

Wednesday 22 June 2005

Hellingly school children jumped at the chance to monitor the speed of passing traffic on Monday (20 June) as part of a child road safety week.

The week has seen 192 children, teachers, parents and local Hellingly residents, join forces with East Sussex County Council’s road safety team and Sussex Police to drive home the message to motorists to ‘Slow Down and Belt Up’.

Activities have included child pedestrian training, cycle training, speed checks and in-car safety. The children will also be working on a data collection project monitoring vehicle speeds, seat belt wearing and mobile phone use. The school is encouraging parents to sign up and make a commitment to kill their speed.
