The local heat for the competition organised by East Sussex and Brighton & Hove Trading Standards will take place in Lewes Town Hall on June 8 and the two winning teams will go through to the final in Brighton hosted by Liz Barclay from the Radio Four ‘You and Yours’ programme.
The quiz, sponsored locally by Lewes Tyres, is an inter-school competition for teams of young people with moderate learning difficulties from schools within Sussex. Contestants face questions on a wide range of consumer and safety issues.
The aim is to increase awareness of consumers’ rights and responsibilities in a way that is both instructive and enjoyable.
The quiz is highly participative and questions cover subjects such as signs and symbols, safety, shoppers’ rights and legal matters. It is designed to help vulnerable young people cope with consumer issues.
