Works start to improve Pevensey Bay crossroads

Tuesday 29 March 2005

A new signal controlled junction at the busy Pevensey Bay crossroads will be built to help the flow of traffic on the A259 and help minimise the impacts from the level crossing closures.

The A259 Wallsend Road/Sea Road, Coast Road and Richmond Road will all be affected by the works which will start on Monday April 11.

The crossroads are also a part of the national cycleway network route two, and a new section of cycleway is included in the scheme to help cyclists through the junction. Pedestrians will also find it easier to cross.

Part of the scheme includes installing two new benches and two new bus shelters, one in Richmond Road and the other in Wallsend Roadprovided by both the county and parish councils.

Highway contractors are expected to be working on the scheme for about eight weeks during which time some temporary traffic management will have to be used. Every effort will be made however to keep any disruption to traffic to a minimum.

Temporary road closures will be necessary during some evenings and details of these will be sign posted in the area and local residents will be kept informed.
