Road safety works start in Polegate

Tuesday 29 March 2005

Road safety works are starting in Polegate to improve pedestrian safety in the Black Path/High Street area.

In this area between January 2000 and December 2004 there has been one serious and three slight accidents, two of which involved pedestrians.

To help reduce casualty figures, highway contractors will be widening the pavements in Black Path at its junction with the High Street, to make the road narrower and provide a safer crossing point for pedestrians.

The works will start on Monday (April 4) and are expected to take about two weeks to complete during which time it will be necessary to temporarily close the road at Black Path (between the High Street and Burnside junctions). Access will however be maintained for local residents, pedestrians and businesses.
