Sunday service for West Hill

Tuesday 22 March 2005

The Sunday service for West Hill in Hastings will start again in May thanks to a £9,520 subsidy from East Sussex County Council.

The service to be operated by Stagecoach will run hourly from the Conquest Hospital to the town centre from 9.30 to 18.30. This service is an extension of Service 98 which means that passengers can link up with buses travelling to other destinations.

The service is part of the Hastings Quality Bus Partnership between the county council, Hastings Borough Council and Stagecoach, an initiative which has encouraged bus use throughout the town and has seen passenger numbers rise significantly as a result.

"This is good news for the residents of West Hill,” said Councillor Matthew Lock, "They have missed their Sunday service which was withdrawn last September because too few people used it. Local people told us that they wanted the service reinstated and I’m very pleased that we have been able to help them out.”

The contract for the new service will run until the end of September 2006 when all contracts in the Hastings area are due for review.
