Local historian and author Ken Brooks, will be giving a talk on the site’s history in Hastings reference department on Wednesday 2 March, 2.30–3.30pm. He will explore the area once known as the ‘America Ground’, named after the nineteenth century residents who tried to show independence from their borough by hoisting the American flag.
The talk will take the audience on a journey from medieval times when it was the site of a natural harbour, through to the early nineteenth century when according to Ken Brooks, the area had become a ‘‘no-man’s land’ with over 1,000 squatters', later to be taken over by the Crown.
With a mixture of photo displays, paintings, power point slides and a question and answer session, residents will leave with an entirely new view of Hastings Central Library.
