Event helps to sustain business success

Tuesday 25 January 2005

With energy, water and waste charges all on the increase, businesses are constantly on the lookout for ways to cut costs by making more efficient use of resources.

A free "Sustainable Business Succeeds” event in Eastbourne on 9 February will help to show them the way.

Organised by East Sussex Business Excellence Through Resource Efficiency (betre) project, which is part-funded by East Sussex County Council, the afternoon event at the TGWU Centre will combine a sustainable products trade fair with a conference offering advice from industry experts, local business case studies, practical tips on reducing waste and an explanation of the policies and drivers for improving sustainability.

Councillor Matthew Lock, East Sussex County Council Lead Cabinet Member for Transport and the Environment, said: "One of our priorities is to develop a more prosperous and sustainable local economy. The betre project is one way in which the Council is helping to make this a reality.

"Local businesses which have been assisted by the project to become more energy, water and waste efficient have collectively saved more than £145,000 so far. I hope others will now take the opportunity to find out how they can save money and resources by going along to the Eastbourne event.”

More details on the betre project are available from Janette Ackroyd on 01273 245654 or by email at jackroyd@ecosys.org.uk.
