So far 40 traders from across the county, ranging from plumbers to jewellers, have received the trading standards’ seal of approval and another 42 are currently going through the approval process.
"We have asked customers in the Lewes District areas to recommend their favourite trader and business, and we now want traders themselves to contact trading standards so they too can join the scheme,” said Councillor Bob Tidy, Lead Cabinet Member for Community Safety.
"As well as helping to prevent consumers falling victim to bogus traders, the scheme will benefit the businesses in a great many ways, including the recognition that they have high standards of customer care,” he said.
Other ways that the scheme will benefit the trader or business include:
- beneficial publicity
- proof of membership by certificate for display on their premises and use of the Buy With Confidence logo
- a place on the Buy With Confidence website with a hot link to their own site for potential customers.
When approved for the scheme, trading standards present the certificates at special award ceremonies.
Traders and businesses wishing to register their interest in joining the scheme should call trading standards on 01323 418201 or email buywithconfidence@eastsussex.gov.uk.
Notes to editors
Trading Standards has so far held one award ceremony in Uckfield and will be holding a second in Eastbourne on December 13. The third award ceremony will be held early March in Hastings.
