During National Adoption Week, 1–7 November, the Council is urging people to come forward and offer a loving permanent home to a child or young person in care.
Lead Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Councillor Meg Stroude, said:
"I would urge people to come forward if they have ever considered adopting. Anyone can adopt. It doesn’t matter what your personal circumstances are, we’re appealing to those interested to come forward and find out more.
"Too many children and young people are waiting far too long for a loving family. Some of these children may have complex backgrounds so it’s vital that loving and stable home environments can be found for them. You can make it happen for them by taking the first step by finding out more information about adopting a child.”
Anyone interested in finding out more about adoption can call the Adoption and Permanence Team on 01323 747154, and come along to the special Adoption Information Day at Brighton University, Falmer Site, Westlaine House, Room 114 on Saturday November 6.
East Sussex County Council is part of the South East Adoption Consortium, along with Brighton, Bexley, Medway, Bromley and Kent. By pooling resources the different authorities are able to match children who need adoption more quickly with new families.
