The new principal of Seaford Head Community College has been appointed.

Martin Clark, currently headteacher at Halyard High School, Luton, will start in post in January 2005, and his primary task will be to build on the progress currently being made at the College and to lead it out of Special Measures by October 2005.

Halyard School was placed in Special Measures the term before Mr Clark started in post as headteacher two years ago. Since then, Ofsted monitoring visits by Her Majesty’s Inspectors have reported good progress in the development of the school’s leadership and management, the quality of teaching and learning, and the school’s work with parents.

Denise Stokoe, Director of Education and Libraries at the County Council, said: "We have appointed Martin Clark after a rigorous selection process. He brings a wealth of ability and experience in school leadership which will be invaluable in moving the College forward and building on the progress made by the acting headteacher, Lyn Fryer.”

Mr Clark, a graduate of the London College of Music and an active musician, has been teaching since 1988. He spent six years at Greensward College, an 11 – 19 school in Hockley, Essex where he became Deputy Headteacher. He says: "I am looking forward to joining the staff team in the new year. My vision for the future of Seaford Head Community College is one of comprehensive excellence, energy and enthusiasm for students as well as staff, governors and parents.

"I shall put all my energies into involving the community and making the College a first class centre of learning, and a place where achievement and success work hand in hand with a positive, caring approach to all students as individuals.”

Seaford Head Community College was placed in Special Measures in January 2004.
