Libraries spread the word

Thursday 30 September 2004

Consumers from across the County can now get to know their rights and learn how to deal with problem products at their local library thanks to the launch of a new network of consumer information points.

Over 90 information points make up the Consumer Support Network (CSN), a scheme co-ordinated by East Sussex County Council Trading Standards. The information points provide consumers with information and advice from a range of organisations including Trading Standards, libraries and the Citizens Advice Bureaux.

Councillor Bob Tidy, Lead Member for Community Safety, said: "By bringing advice from various different organisations together under one roof consumers can access a wide range of information in one go.

"The hope is that by making this type of information so readily available at local libraries, consumers can quickly get the right advice and be directed to the right organisations when they have a problem.”

As well as being stocked with leaflets and packs, libraries will also house a copy of the Consumer Support Network directory, which contains useful telephone numbers relating to a wide range of possible problems.
