Gearing up for second cycle festival

Tuesday 28 September 2004

Plans for the second East Sussex Cycle Festival, to be held over the weekend of 9–10 July 2005 have been announced.

Organised by the County Council with support from the Cyclist Touring Club, Sustrans and the British Cycle Federation, the Festival will again be encouraging people from all over the country to explore the Sussex countryside by bike from the camping based event.

Base for the Festival will be the historic 160 acre Firle Place, near Lewes. The country house estate setting sits below the South Downs in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and provides easy off roads and access to many of the areas most attractive rides.

Building on the success of the Festival this year, next year’s event will include a campsite, exhibition and market place, a full arena programme, guided rides and evening entertainment.

A feature for 2005 is the inclusion of competitions including road and grass track racing.
