The results, which are provisional at this stage, reveal six schools that have made the greatest improvement in the number of A* - C grades since last year, they are:
- Eastbourne Technology College (16% increase)
- Thomas Peacocke Community College, Rye (12% increase)
- The Cavendish School, Eastbourne (10% increase)
- The Causeway School, Eastbourne (10% increase)
- Tideway School, Newhaven (8% increase)
- Hailsham Community College (7% increase)
Three schools achieved over 70% of entrants gaining five or more A* - C grades, including:
- St Richard’s Catholic College, Bexhill-on-Sea (83%)
- Claverham Community College, Battle (77%)
- Priory School, Lewes (72%)
Councillor Keith Glazier, Lead Cabinet Member for Education at the County Council, said: "This is excellent news for East Sussex which, added to the recent good news on A-levels and Key Stage tests, shows the County’s success in supporting teachers to improve standards in our schools.
"The County Council would like to congratulate all our pupils on their achievements, as well as teachers and governors for their dedication and guidance, and parents for their considerable support.”
In 2003, the number of pupils gaining five or more A* - C grades rose to 52.7 per cent, from 51.2 per cent in 2002.
A more detailed analysis of grades will be available in the autumn once the figures have been submitted to the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and any grading appeals processed.
