Press release

Could you make a difference?

Wednesday 28 July 2004

People who want to make a difference to some of the County’s 450 looked after children and young people are being urged to go along to Hastings’ Play in the Park on Wednesday 4 August.

At the event, held weekly at Alexandra Park throughout the summer, East Sussex County Council will be hosting a special fostering and adoption stand to help spread the word about the need to increase the number of foster carers in the area.

Children who are unable to live with their families are looked after in foster care for varying lengths of time. Some people care for children whilst decisions about their long-term future are made, while others provide a child with a home for their entire childhood – either as permanent foster carers or as adopters.

Families are carefully chosen for each group of children to make sure that it is the right move for everyone involved. All carers have a named social worker to support them and a range of other support, from specialist advice to respite breaks and summer activities is also available alongside full training and a generous weekly allowance. All carers have free membership of the local and national Foster Care Association.

Foster carers as well as staff from the foster team will be available to talk about their experiences and answer questions at the event – which is being held every Wednesday throughout August.

For more information about fostering, call Dee or Celia on 01323 747155 or email fostering@eastsussex.gov.uk
