New opening hours for Crowborough library

Monday 28 June 2004

People in the Crowborough area are set to benefit from extended opening hours at their local library thanks to a £20,000 cash injection from East Sussex County Council.

Residents have chosen their favourite option following a consultation on opening hours and the new times come into force at the library in Pine Grove on Monday 12 July 2004.

The new opening hours will be: Monday 9.30am – 5.30pm; Tuesday 10am – 5.30pm; Wednesday 9.30am – 5.30pm; Thursday 9.30am – 7pm; Friday 9.30am – 7pm; and Saturday 9.30am – 4pm.

Council chiefs say it is a big boost for Crowborough library users. Councillor Meg Stroude, Lead Cabinet Member for Libraries, said: "Extending the opening hours at Crowborough gives people more freedom to choose when they visit their library. For the first time the library will be operating on a Wednesday and will also continue to keep its doors open until 7.00pm two days a week. It gives residents more opportunity to borrow books, videos and DVDs, find out information or surf the net for free on days and at times that suit them.

"The £20,000 boost for Crowborough is part of an overall package of £350,000 for libraries right across the County this year. The money is being used to extend opening hours and to carry out major refurbishment and disability access work.”
