Adult Social Care Engagement and Involvement Strategy 2012-2015

We wanted to hear your views on how we can better involve people in planning and delivering care services in East Sussex.

We want local people and our partners to be at the heart of the way that services are planned and organised:

  • analysing what is needed
  • planning and designing services
  • delivering them
  • monitoring and reviewing them.

The way we involve you must be effective, efficient, and sustainable.

Who could take part?

We particularly wanted to hear the views of:

  • people who use Adult Social Care services
  • carers
  • voluntary and community organisations
  • partner agencies such as the NHS, districts and boroughs.

Background Information

This draft strategy builds on our Strategic Review of Engagement which showed how service users, carers and communities were being already involved, and suggested how to build on this existing good practice. We published this report online: A Strategic Review of Engagement in Adult Social Care

In developing the new draft strategy we have been able to talk with many people and groups about whether we are getting it right. Some of their comments, such as where there are overlaps and where we could work more closely with partners, what works well and some ideas for improvements, are included in the new strategy:

The four key objectives of this document are:

  1. We will work with and involve our partners in our Engagement and Involvement Delivery Plan.
  2. We will promote inclusive good practice so that it becomes embedded into everyday practice.
  3. We will involve users, carers and the community with a direct interest in improving quality of life for all.
  4. We will develop a set of outcomes and feedback mechanisms, which can be monitored.

How you could take part

We asked you to read the draft strategy (above) and tell us if there is anything in it that isn't clear or that you have concerns about.

We will also be taking the draft strategy to our engagement and involvement groups, such as Partnership Boards, service user and carer groups, and partner forums.

The consultation period lasted for 12 weeks and closed on 25 April 2012.

What happens next?

Your comments will inform any changes that are needed to the strategy. Once any changes are made the strategy will be considered for approval by Adult Social Care's departmental management team.

The final strategy will be published in the Adult Social Care section of this website in May or June 2012.

Help and advice for people with a learning disability

We produce Easy Read information about some surveys, to help people with learning disabilities to get involved. This might be leaflets, flyers or sometimes questionnaires. See below to find out what you could print out.
