We wanted your views on a joint proposal by East Sussex County Council and the Governing Body to increase the size of St Mary Magdalene Catholic Primary School from 210 places to 315 places.
Following consideration of the consultation responses by the Council and the Governing Body, the Lead Members for Children's Services has decided to continue with the proposal. A Statutory Notice for the enlargement of the school has now been published in the local paper. You can download a copy of the Statutory Notice at the bottom of this page.
There is now another four week period of consultation, known as the representation period.
Background to this survey
The birth rate in Bexhill has risen by 27% over a four year period, similar to the trend in other areas of the country.
We need to make sure there are enough school places available for all children, in a way that offers the best value to the taxpayer.
The school is popular and regularly oversubscribed. Total preferences went up by 46% in the last three years. In response to this rising demand the school would admit up to 45 reception aged children in September 2012.
This proposal is about making sure the school can continue admitting up to 45 children each year by permanently enlarging it with effect from September 2013.
What happens next?
The council is the final decision maker for this proposal. We have a duty to make a final decision on the proposal within two months of the end of the representation period. This decision would probably be taken in April 2012.
