Have your say about the East Sussex Local Economic Assessment

We asked you about the East Sussex Local Economic Assessment (LEA) to make sure it gives a comprehensive picture of the state of the economy of East Sussex and that we have identified the main issues affecting it.

Who took part?

We wanted to hear from any organisation or individual who has an interest in economic development, including:

  • businesses and business representation organisations
  • the voluntary and community sector
  • East Sussex local authorities
  • other organisations with an interest in economic development and regeneration
  • anyone else who has an interest.

Background information

From April 2010 all county and unitary authorities must carry out a Local Economic Assessment. It is designed to provide a full understanding of the local economy and covers the following themes:

  1. Economy
  2. Business and enterprise
  3. People and community
  4. Place
  5. Drivers, trends and influencers.

We have worked together with the five borough and district councils, the business community, the East Sussex Strategic Partnership Assembly and Experian to produce a draft assessment for East Sussex.

Where possible the rapidly changing economic environment has been reflected in the document. This includes the recent change of government, the comprehensive spending review and budget deficit and the introduction of Local Enterprise Partnerships.

How you took part

This consultation closed on 8 April 2011.

You could give your views through an online survey, by completing the printable questionnaire below or by visiting your local library.

What you told us

We received 11 responses to the consultation, the majority of which requested additions to the data in their geographical area or area of interest.

Those that responded through the online survey were all in agreement with the focus of the themes.

Thank you to all who contributed.

What happened as a result of the consultation

All comments have been reviewed and in most cases the LEA has been changed in the light of the comments. However, some comments were beyond the scope of the LEA and were therefore not included in this document. The final version of the LEA is available on the East Sussex in Figures website.

This assessment will be used as evidence to develop a new Economic Development Strategy (EDS) to replace the strategy published in 2007. We are asking for your views about the draft EDS from December 2011 to March 2012.
