Review of supported bus services

We reviewed supported local bus services (services funded by East Sussex County Council) in the Hastings and Rother areas, including some services in Wealden and Lewes.

This survey closed on 11 March 2011.

Consultation results

Following this consultation, the changes to bus services were approved at the meeting of Lead Member for Economy, Transport & Environment on 9 May 2011.

Full details of the changes are set out in the document, below.

Background information

The review covered public and school and college bus services, and we wanted to hear from any individual, organisation or group with an interest.

The proposed changes were set out in the documents below and were developed following results of an earlier consultation in October 2010. See:

Following government cuts, we needed to make savings of £250,000 on bus services we support. Some of these savings will be made through this review.

The scale of the savings meant we had no choice but to reduce the scope of certain services. We recognise the impact on residents but had to be realistic about what we could afford.

To reduce the impact of any reduction in services, we will continue to promote and support community transport schemes.

For general information, see our pages about Bus travel in East Sussex.
