During January 2010 we asked for your views about moving Rye Library and the Community Help Point to new premises in the High Street.
Who took part
We asked local residents for your feedback about the new library to help ensure that we provide the type of service that is right for you.
We wanted to hear your thoughts on what we can do to make the East Sussex County Council library and the Community Help Point run by Rother District Council more welcoming for you.
All responses received are treated in the strictest confidence and used for research purposes only.
What happened next
We couldn't promise to do everything you suggested but we've done our best to emphasise the things people want most, including:
- a dedicated public library space on the ground floor, almost three times the size of the existing library
- a community help point to help with issues such as housing, local planning, bus passes and blue badge questions
- a quiet area and comfortable seating
- study space and free public computers
- toilet facilities
- moveable furniture and shelving so that space can be used for author talks, local history events and community workshops.
This scheme was approved by Rother District Council's Cabinet and the East Sussex County Council Planning Committee in February 2010.
Building work started in autumn 2010, and we opened the new library on 24 January 2011.
You can see the building plans and some photos of the work online:
