What do you think about our Participation and Engagement Strategy?

We asked for your views on our Participation and Engagement Strategy in Children's Services.

Children, young people, parents and carers have a right to their voice being heard and to influence the decisions that affect their lives.

We want to make sure that people are able to question why and how strategic priorities are set, services are provided and resources allocated.

And we want to make sure that children, young people, parents and carers are able to work with us together to make a positive contribution to their communities.

Who took part?

Everyone was welcome to get involved. We asked to hear from people who use our services, work for our statutory and voluntary sector partners or simply those who are interested and would like to have a say. All comments would help to make our Strategy as successful as possible.

Background to this survey

We know that the wellbeing of children and young people is improved if they and their families have directly shaped services that meet their individual needs.

At different levels people need to be kept informed, have the opportunity to be consulted, or to be actively involved in decisions that are made and the way that services are provided.

The new Strategy will help us, and our partners within the Children and Young People's Trust (CYPT), to agree shared actions to improve the way we involve people in the services we deliver.

Taking part

Respondents were asked to read the draft Strategy and the Action Plan before completing the questionnaire. Those documents (including a specimen questionnaire) are at the foot of this page.

The first draft of this strategy was shared with partners from September 2009.

Please note that the period for returning comments closed on Friday 5 February 2010.

What happened next

Your comments were fed back to the Children and Young People's Trust Executive Board in March 2010.

In the light of your feedback, the Board decided what changes should be made to the draft Strategy.

What happened as a result of this consultation

The final revised Strategy has now been published. It reflects the feedback we received from the consultation.

The Strategy includes an Action Plan which describes what we will do next and appendices to support the strategy.
