Housing and support for older people in Lewes District

In 2009 we launched our consultation on housing and support for older people living in Lewes District. More than 600 people completed a questionnaire, and many more attended events.

Your feedback and comments were used to help write our draft strategy and action plan.

For the final part of the consultation East Sussex County Council and Lewes District Council wanted to know what you thought of our action plan.

Who can take part

We wanted to hear the views of older people living in Lewes District, as well as people and organisations with an interest in services for older people.

Background information

As well as seeking your views, we've worked with the Lewes Seniors' Forum, Seaford Seniors' Forum and Meridian Mature Citizens' Forum to develop the strategy and action plan.

The action plan sets out how we plan to:

  • support independence
  • provide accessible and appropriate information
  • promote health, well-being and social inclusion, and
  • improve housing support options for all older people.

You will also find copies of the draft strategy, an executive summary of the strategy and our draft action plan.

We also produced a feedback newsletter outlining our findings from the original questionnaire and consultation events.

What you told us

We have analysed the responses to the final part of the consultation and generally the feedback is very positive.

The majority of you understand what we plan to do and agree that the draft action plan will improve housing and support services across the four topic areas (see above).

For a full summary of the consultation results you can download the feedback newsletter, titled ‘Housing and support Lewes – Action plan feedback – April 2010', below.

What will happen as a result of this consultation

As a result of the feedback received during the consultation, the draft action plan now includes plans on improving the process for accessing adaptations and the introduction of a pilot telephone service offering information and advice.

Once the strategy and action plan are approved representatives from the Seniors' Forums and the Meridian Mature Citizens Forum will be invited to help us develop the action plan further and look at how we achieve the aims it sets out.

The ongoing monitoring of the Action Plan will be done by the Eastbourne, Lewes and Wealden Older People's Housing and Support Group.
