We asked for your views about our plan to set up specialist provision for pupils with autism in Blacklands Primary School in Hastings.
Background information
We have already set up a number of similar specialist provisions around the County. This means that young people with significant special needs can go to a local mainstream school and have special support to let them learn to the best of their ability.
In 2005 we carried out a review of special educational needs provision in East Sussex. We carried out a survey and held public meetings around the county. We wanted to know what parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs thought about how we provide education for their children and what we could do better.
As a result of this consultation it was agreed that specialist provision should be set up in Blacklands Primary School. You can find our more about what happened as a result of this consultation in our Next Steps document below.
What happens next
Following the informal consultation approval was given for statutory notices to be issued at the Lead Member for Children's Services meeting on 20 September 2010. The notices were published on 15 October 2010. The statutory consultation period lasted for six weeks.
This consultation closed on 26 November.
Depending on the outcome the specialist provision will be formally registered with the Department for Education (DfE) from September 2011.
Who could take part?
We welcomed comments from parents and carers of young people who have special educational needs, parents and carers of young people who attend the school and anyone else who has an interest in our proposal.
