Wivelsfield traffic calming

As part of our village speed limit reviews, we looked at introducing a 30mph limit in Wivelsfield and Wivelsfield Green along:

  • Green Road
  • North Common Road and
  • South Road.

To reduce vehicle speeds, we need to provide traffic calming features and we asked for your views on our proposals for these.

The deadline for comments was Friday 13 February 2009.

Consultation results

A small majority told us that they wanted a 30mph speed limit introduced with road signs alone. A petition was submitted, welcoming the proposed 30mph speed limit, but rejecting the related traffic calming measures.

As a result:

  • A 30mph speed limit was introduced on North Common Road and South Road, using signs and lines.
  • We are monitoring the new speed limit and will use the results to decide what needs to be put in place on Green Road.

The plans were also displayed at Wivelsfield Village Hall, in January 2009.
