Consultation about the proposal to close Eastbourne Technology College to make way for a new academy

Latest

The Secretary of State approved the opening of The Eastbourne Academy on 1 September 2010 to replace Eastbourne Technology College. This is the final decision required.

In Autumn 2009 we asked for your views about our proposal to close Eastbourne Technology College (ETC) to make way for a new academy. The academy would provide education for up to 900 students between 11 to 16. It would have an annual intake of up to 180 boys and girls a year. ETC would only close if the Secretary of State approved the establishment of the academy.

The Lead Member considered the results of the consultation on 12 January 2010 and agreed to publish a Statutory Notice formally proposing the closure of Eastbourne Technology College in August 2010 as long as the Secretary of State approved the establishment of the academy.

The Statutory Notice and Proposal was available on this page from 20 January until 3 March 2010.

There were no responses to the Statutory Notice, and on 16 March 2010 the Lead Member approved the closure of Eastbourne Technology College as long as the Secretary of State approved the establishment of the academy.

At the end of March the Secretary of State approved the establishment of The Eastbourne Academy on 1 September 2010 to replace Eastbourne Technology College.
