Community safety in your area
From July to September 2009 the East Sussex Safer Communities Partnership asked you what the priorities should be for keeping people safe in your local area and other questions about crime and anti-social behaviour.
East Sussex Safer Communities Partnership
The East Sussex Safer Communities Partnership works together to make your community a safe place to live, work and visit by reducing crime, anti-social behaviour, and drug and alcohol problems in East Sussex.
Members of the East Sussex Safer Communities Partnership include East Sussex County Council, Sussex Police Authority, Sussex Police, Sussex Probation Service, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, District and Borough Councils, Primary Care Trusts and the five Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships.
For more information about the work of the partnership and what individual partners are doing in your local area, go to working together to tackle crime.

- Almost 58% of people felt safe when outside in their local area after dark.
- The most important priority was anti-social behaviour, followed by road safety and burglary.
- The most important anti-social behaviour crime type to tackle was alcohol related anti-social behaviour.
The full results of the survey can be downloaded below.
What happens next
All the responses from this survey – as well as responses from the Place Survey, Residents' Panel, TellUs3 Survey 2009 and the British Crime Survey – helped to inform the priorities that were selected by the East Sussex Safer Communities Partnership for 2010 to 2011.
These priorities include:
- Anti-social behaviour and road safety
- Reducing harm caused by alcohol – The 'Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy' was agreed in November. This strategy outlines how all organisations will work together to prevent young people under 18 gaining access to alcohol and help those at most risk of harm from alcohol misuse to access appropriate services.
Have your views changed?
We started the survey again on 1 February 2010 to get the views from those people who have not yet responded. We also want to find out if people who previously completed the survey have changed your views.
