Have your say on our Cycling Strategy

We asked for your views on a draft version of our updated Cycling Strategy. The closing date for comments was 20 February 2009.

All comments were considered and the final version of the strategy was approved by the Lead Member for Transport and Environment in March 2009.

Our Cycling Strategy is now set out in Active Travel – Walking and Cycling, in Chapter 4 of our Local Transport Plan.

Consultation results

74% of people who responded said that the strategy was clear and easy to understand, with 53% saying that they were happy with the strategy overall.

We asked if you thought that encouraging 'utility' trips was a good way to increase cycling and 76% of respondents agreed.

68% of people who responded agreed that the policies and objectives set out in our Cycling Strategy will help encourage cycling in East Sussex overall.

Background

In 2007 we carried out a review of cycling in East Sussex and decided to focus our cycling policy on 'utility cycling', such as journeys to work or school, rather than recreational cycling, in order to achieve the targets of our Local Transport Plan.
