Between March and May 2008 we sought your views about daytime activities offered to older people and people with disabilities. We were particularly looking for feedback from people over 60, people with physical and learning disabilities, people living with mental health problems and their carers.
The consultation closed on 5 May 2008.
Thank you very much if you took the time to participate in the consultation.
Background
We are entering a time of considerable demographic change when people are living longer and many children with disabilities who formerly might have had a tragically short lifespan are growing into adulthood and on into old age.
We want to develop opportunities for vulnerable adults and their carers to use education and leisure services in the community, rather than attending a traditional day centre.
The draft framework and questionnaire are available to download below.
Results
You told us:
- you agreed with most of our priorities for providing day opportunities for adults in East Sussex
- transport is a major issue to get right to make day opportunities accessible to everyone, and
- you were concerned that extending opportunities outside of day care centres might be expensive and unrealistic for some people.
The information you gave us has now been used to develop a new framework for our work with adults and their carers, called ‘From Day Care to Day Opportunities'. You can download this framework below.
You will also find a short summary of the responses you gave us, see ‘Summary of the Outcomes', below.
