Special Educational Needs – funding for mainstream schools
This consultation closed on 30 March 2007.
This was the second consultation regarding proposals to change the way in which funds are passed to mainstream schools in East Sussex for SEN, additional educational needs and social deprivation.
This consultation was about the indicators to be used to allocate funding, and was the second stage of a larger review process that was promised in the 2005 consultation document, Special Educational Needs review – Next Steps.
Results
We received a disappointing number of responses. However, of those that did respond the majority agreed all the indicators. All those who responded agreed that the Pupil Retention Grant funding should be included in the new formula.
Comments received included:
- there should not be a county threshold for free school meals
- an indicator using prior attainment could reward poor performance
- funding must represent true level of need
- concern that if funding is separated from statements that resources are directed at those young people that need them.
The results of this consultation do not affect the way in which special schools and special units and facilities are funded nor do they alter the funding for central support services.
